From the Hallway
A young friend of mine, suffering from very serious health issues at MD Anderson, was going through horrific treatments. I wanted to encourage him, so I sent him this message:
When God closes one door, He always opens another . . . but it's hell in the hallway.
He responded . . . . 'FROM THE HALLWAY!'
We aim to support and encourage others during difficult times, but sometimes we find it hard to choose the right words.
When I was a kid, I broke my arm, and the thing never set back quite right. In grade school, the little girls would call out "show us your arm" and of course when I did they would squeal.
Later in life, I was drafted and was sure I was on my way to the war in Vietnam. The lady who filled out my paperwork was watching me as I walked out of the Recruiting Office, and called out "Wait a minute, young man -- come back here! What's wrong with your arm?" When I showed her, she made a face and said "That arm makes me sick!" Two weeks later I received my classification and was disqualified, exempting me from service with a medical excuse.
In my wildest dreams I never thought that my deformed arm would be a benefit to me.
It might have even saved my life!
When you're down to nothing, God is up to something!
If you have a friend who is going through a ''hallway', reach out to them and encourage them. Let them know you are thinking about them and praying for them. And remind them they are not in the hallway ALONE!
Every situation in life is temporary.
When life is good, make sure you enjoy and receive it fully. When life is not so good, remember that it will not last forever and better days are on the way.
