Perspectives

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

Everybody sees things their own way. Both ways could be right -- but we have to talk and listen to other people's views to understand their perspective.

Remember the story of two boys who were going to see an elephant for the first time. The circus master blindfolded each boy and asked them to touch this creature and then give his description of it:

The first boy touched the belly, and said it was a large leather blob. The other blindfolded boy touched the trunk and said the creature had a gigantic arm. When the blindfolds were removed, the boys saw that even though each one of them had a different perspective, they were both right!

It's amazing how, overtime, a persons perspective can be altered, or even changed. To admit that you are wrong is to admit you are wiser now than when you were before!

Just because you think you are right, doesn't mean someone else is wrong. You can be right and still be in the wrong from their perspective. Even though we see and approach situations with different perspectives, every opinion deserves respect. We must learn to sit down together in a civil fashion and discuss our differences without getting angry and taking it personally.

Discussions are always better than arguments, because an argument is to find out who is right and a discussion is to find out what is right. Always be willing to admit that your opinion might be wrong.

The greatest tragedy for any human being is going through their entire lives believing the only perspective that matters is their own.

Try to see things differently – it's the only way to grow and get a clear perspective on the world and on your life.
