An elderly gentleman's wife had been in a memory care facility for over 4 years. Not a day went by that he did not go visit her, even though she never recognized him or ever knew why he came. One day after all these years, he just couldn't stand it anymore, and he got down on his knees, looked into her eyes and said, "Honey do you know who I am?" She paused, looked up at him and replied,

"I don't know who you are, but I can tell that you are someone who loves me very much."

Are you or anyone you know going through a situation like this? If so, I'd like to recommend a friend's book, 5-Steps To Navigating Your Care-Giving Journey by Susan Ryan.

In her book, Susan describes experiencing an emotional roller coaster—frequently blindfolded—without knowing what would come next. She consistently felt overwhelmed, sensing that something was missing, and was disappointed in herself for not being able to accomplish more.

Susan was a caregiver for family members with Alzheimers, and like her readers she faced a wide variety of situations and problems. She openly discusses her attitude about handling her roles of care, her vulnerability, solutions and tips -- and love was the inspiration for all her actions.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. - 1 Corinthians 13:7

"Those who read my blog are happier, more intelligent and better looking than those who don’t, according to a study that I made up."
