One of my heroes is Bob Goff, author of Love Does, an excellent must-read book!
According to Bob, giving is not just a moral obligation but a pathway to a more joyful, connected, and purposeful life. Not just at Christmas, but all year long!
We give gifts at Christmas to symbolizes the ultimate Gift God gave us in Jesus Christ, His Son! Giving at Christmas does include a certain 'magic' that normal giving may or may not include. But how could we even begin to match the Gift God gave us?
Giving is love in action!
Imagine if our gift-giving wasn't just about the "stuff" but about giving a piece of our hearts to others . . . .
Bob stresses 'intentional giving' -- not merely giving in return for something that was given -- but heartfelt giving in REAL love!
Someone once said "Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have".
We should try to embrace extravagant generosity, going beyond the ordinary to do something over the top for someone else. After all in 2 Corinthians, the Bible says, each one of us must give as we have been given, directly from our heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion. For God loves a cheerful giver.
If you can't afford a big gift, consider the beauty of a gift of service to others.
Create some lasting memories! Whether it's donating to a local charity, volunteering your time, lending a helping hand, or simply being present with your loved ones.
'Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth'
And don't overlook the effectiveness of small gifts: Just a smile, a quick call or text, or a shared laugh might change someone's day. Or even their life!
Every gift should be motivated by Love!
Put other's feelings and needs ahead of your own.
That is really what Christmas is all about.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU -- MY FRIENDS!
