    World Book Encyclopedias, circa 1954

When I was a child, a traveling salesman knocked on the front door of our house. Nobody EVER came to our front door unless it was the Preacher or a Salesman! This Salesman was offering a set of these wonderful books: The World Book Encyclopedias! Mom and dad thought my sister and I deserved the best education they could afford and hoped these books might be helpful . So, they gave the salesman a down payment of two-dollars and he agreed to return in about a week with the books for us, and a payment coupon book for them.

As a 10-year-old with ADD or AT & T (or whatever I had), I was absolutely sure these books contained all the knowledge that I would ever need to know for rest of my entire life.

One by one, I flipped through the pages of each book -- mostly looking at the pictures. If I was interested in the photo, I would probably be interested in the explanation. No pictures, no interest! I guess you could say this was my way of trying to expand my knowledge.

It didn't take me long to recognize I needed to become a life-long learner. I thought I knew it all until I read the quote from John Wooden: It’s what you learn after you 'know it all' that counts.

The greatest obstacle to learning is

    thinking you already know enough.

I don't want to ever quit learning because life never quits teaching!

One of the secrets to staying youthful is to stay curious! Consistently engaging in activities you're unfamiliar with, forces you to continue to learn new things.

As technology keeps expanding at an even faster pace, we need to intentionally focus on keeping up.

Ai, Robots and driverless cars -- WE'VE GOT TO TRY TO KEEP UP, NOT NECESSARILY TO GET AHEAD, BUT JUST TO STAY RELEVANT.

Education is something you don't ever finish!

It's important to stay active -- in your mind as well as your body! Each morning I ride my bicycle which helps me physically, but also helps me be more mentally creative.

Remember the wise words of my mentor, Zig Ziglar:

If you are not willing to learn, NO ONE can help you.

If you are determined to learn, NO ONE can stop you!
