When I was 16 years old my idea of success was getting to drive my dad's old Chevy after I hand-washed it, getting a date with the best looking girl in the tenth grade, and having enough money to buy her a hot dog and a Pepsi at the local drive-in. Thankfully, over the years my definition of success has changed!
Some people might see these things as material success: estate ownership, a status vehicle, designer clothing, the latest technological gadgets, and large investment portfolios. But they don't necessarily bring you happiness.
Trying to be happy by accumulating possessions is like trying to satisfy hunger by taping sandwiches all over your body. -George Carlin
Money can bring you happiness! (If you don’t think money brings happiness, you haven’t given enough away.)
Will Rogers once said that if you want to be successful, you need to know what you’re doing, love what you’re doing, and believe in what you’re doing. Success takes Purpose, Courage and Action.
Purpose
Without purpose, it is hard to have a clear direction. You must have a goal. But the most important thing is to know why you want to achieve that goal.
Courage
Be willing to take the risk! The biggest enemy is your self-doubt. No one succeeds without believing in themself. The journey to success can be a lonely one, but never hesitate to seek help when needed.
Action!
Without taking action all dreams remain just dreams. If you do not act you will fail for sure. If you fail, learn from your mistakes and move forward with knowledge gained from the experience.
Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.
Pastor Ed Young"s Biblical perspective on the definition of success is to know the will of God and to live right in the center of that will.
King Solomon, considered to be one of the wises and richest men who ever lived, wrote that nothing on earth will fully satisfy us and when he was near death he said, 'Everything is meaningless!' - Ecclesiastes 1:2
Rich or Poor -- remember, no matter how much success and riches we accumulate in life, we all wind up in the "SAME SIZE DITCH!"
